作者简介莱昂内尔·特里林(Lionel Trilling, 1905-1975)，20世纪美国著名批评家，生前为美国哥伦比亚大学著名教授。他继承阿诺德、利维斯以来的批评传统，侧重从社会历史、道德心理的角度评论文学和文化，被称为20世纪中期美国年青一代的思想导师，对当代批评影响甚大。其代表作还有《自由的想象》、《弗洛伊德与我们的文化危机》、《反对自我》、《超越文化》等。
