作者简介切斯瓦夫.米沃什，一九一一年生于立陶宛，二战时参加了华沙的抵抗纳粹的运动，战后作为波兰文化专员在纽约、华盛顿和巴黎工作。一九五一年出走巴黎，一九六〇年到美国加州大学伯克利分校任教，是美国人文艺术学院会员之一。一九八〇年获诺贝尔文学奖。二〇〇四年去世。米沃什的诗歌注重内容和感受，广阔而深邃地映射了二十世纪东欧、西欧和美国的动荡历史和命运。其主要著作除了诗歌外，还有《乌尔罗地》《路边狗》《被禁锢的头脑》等随笔和思想性著作，被视为二十世纪东欧最重要的思想家之一。
