From the moment that Gjorg's brother is killed by a neighbour, his own life is forfeit: for the code of Kanun requires Gjorg to kill his brother's murderer and then in turn be hunted down. After shooting his brother's killer, young Gjorg is entitled to thirty days' grace - not enough to see out the month of April. Then a visiting honeymoon couple cross the path of the fugitive. The bride's heart goes out to Gjorg, and even these 'civilised' strangers from the city risk becoming embroiled in the fatal mechanism of vendetta. (20030303)

作者简介

伊斯梅尔·卡达莱（1936- ），阿尔巴尼亚当代最著名的作家和诗人，1936年出生于阿尔巴尼亚南部山城吉诺卡斯特，曾先后在地拉那大学和高尔基世界文学研究所学习深造。1954年，他以诗集《青春的热忱》初登文坛，随后转向小说创作。评论家称赞其小说“其诗意的散文和叙事的灵巧，堪称炉火纯青”。2005年卡达莱从五位诺贝尔文学奖得主中脱颖而出，一举获得首届英国布克国际文学奖。

《破碎的四月》是卡达莱的代表作之一，最早出版于1978年。该作品迄今为止已在40多个国家翻译出版，并被改编成电影《太阳背后》。卡达莱的代表作还有：《亡军的将领》、《梦之宫殿》、《金字塔》和《音乐会》等。
