Forty-two stories make up this magisterial collection by the writer who stands at the pinnacle of modern American fiction. These tales are set not only in Yoknapatawpha County, but in Beverly Hills and in France during World War I. 作者简介威廉·福克纳（1897—1962）
美国文学史上具有影响力的作家之一，意识流文学的代表人物。
福克纳以小说创作闻名于世，他一生共写了19部长篇小说与120多篇短篇小说，其中15部长篇与绝大多数短篇的故事都发生在他虚构的约克纳帕塔法县，称为“约克纳帕塔法世系”。1949年因“他对当代美国小说做出了强有力的和艺术上无与伦比的贡献”获得诺贝尔文学奖。主要作品有《喧哗与骚动》《我弥留之际》《圣殿》《押沙龙，押沙龙！》《去吧，摩西》等。
李文俊（193— ）
著名翻译家，社科院荣誉学部委员，“翻译文化终身成就奖”得主。
长期致力于译介英美文学作品，尤以翻译和介绍福克纳用力蕞多，成就蕞卓著。
1994年获中美文学交流奖，2011年荣获“翻译文化终身成就奖”，多次获得全国外国文学出版奖。
