作者简介斯拉活热·齐泽克（Slavoj Zizek），1949年3月21日生于斯洛文尼亚首府卢布尔雅那（Ljubljana），1971年获文学学士学位，1975年获文学硕士学位，1981年获卢布尔雅斯博士学位，1985年获得巴黎第八大学博士学位。
在学术上，齐泽克善于应用通俗文化理论，以娓娓而谈的方式，解释雅克·拉康晦涩、抽象的理论，同时又善于使用雅克·拉康的理论来解释政治现象和通俗文化问题。他勤于著述，成果丰硕，是拉康之后最成功、最多产的精神分析理论家。
在政治上，他也非常活跃，他曾在1990年的第一次多党选举中，竞选斯洛文尼亚共和国总统，也曾出任过斯洛文尼亚共和国的科学大使。不平凡的政治经历，将他磨炼成一个左翼思想家。
