T.J. Demos is Lecturer in the Department of History of Art, University College London. A member of Art Journal's editorial board, he writes widely on modern and contemporary art, and his articles have appeared in journals such as Artforum, Flash Art, Grey Room and October. Recent essays include "The Art of Darkness: On Steve McQueen", which appeared in October magazine, and "Zurich Dada: The Aesthetics of Exile," which was included in the catalogue The Dada Seminars that accompanied the international Dada exhibition organized jointly by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, and the Centre Pompidou, Paris, in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art, New York. He reviewed the Istanbul Biennial for Artforum in November 2005. His book, entitled The Exiles of Marcel Duchamp, is forthcoming from MIT Press. He is currently working on a new book on contemporary art and globalization.
