作者简介罗德里克·弗雷泽·纳什 Roderick Nash，1939 年生于美国纽约市，1960年获哈佛大学历史文学学士，1964年获威斯康星大学历史博士学位。1966 年开始在加州大学圣巴巴拉分校历史系任教，1993年退休，享有多个奖项和荣誉称号。
纳什还是美国环境教育和环境史学科的开创者和推动者之一。1969 年，他率先在加州大学圣巴巴拉分校开设了环境史课程；1970年，又积极推动该校设立了“环境历史和研究项目”，并担任项目主任5年之久。与此同时，他还是一个环境保护运动的活动家，是1969 年圣巴巴拉石油泄漏事件抗议活动的倡议者和组织者之一。纳什著述颇丰，已出版发表了10部书和150多篇文章。《荒野与美国思想》是他最著名的著作。
