作者简介卡尔·休斯克（Carl E. Schorske），生于纽约市，先后就读于哥伦比亚学院和哈佛大学。他现为代顿—斯托克顿历史学教授，并一直担任普林斯顿大学欧洲文化研究中心主任。休斯克还曾在卫斯理大学和加州大学伯克利校区担任教职。他还是美国国家艺术与科学院的成员，其先前著作包括：《德国的社会民主党，1905-1917》（German Social Democracy, 1910-1917），以及《德意志的问题》（The Problem of Germany）。
