作者简介马尔文•皮克（Mervyn Peake，1911-1968），英国诗人、小说家、画家兼剧作家。1911年出生于中国，先在天津中小学接受教育，后回国就读于伦敦东南区艾萨姆学院，这是《歌门鬼城》中“贝尔葛洛夫学院”的原型。皮克因拥有绘画天分，先后进入克洛登艺术学院（Croydon School of Art）及皇家学院（Royal Academy School）就读。之后他在多家画廊展示画作，成绩斐然，也任教于威斯特敏斯艺术学院。他在那里与画家玛耶芙‧吉摩尔（Maeve Gilmore）相遇，两人于1937年完婚，育有三子。
