作者简介This history was published in Germany in 1960 "Entscheidungsschlachten des Zweiten Weltkrieges" and translated into English in 1965. The well known British historian Cyril Falls (1888-1971) writes the introduction and states that the Battle for Crete was Germany's most brilliant battle and that this book "is not for those who like all problems reduced to pap-- it is the essential study for the intelligent reader who wants to understand fully these crucial episodes of the Second World War." For example, the Dunkirk battle was the beginning of the "dissolution of the (German) chain of command." The footnotes and bibliography take up 50 pages. This was the most authoritative German account up to the time of publication (1960). The battles discussed are: (1) Dunkirk 1940, by Dr Hans-Adolf Jacobsen (2) The Battle of Britain, by Dr. Karl Klee (3) The Battle for Crete, by Dr. Karl Gundelach (4) The Battle for Moscow 1941, by Rudolf Hofmann (5) The Decision in the Mediterranean 1942, by Walter Warlimont (6) The Battle for Stalingrad, 1942-3, by Walter Gorlitz (7) The U-Boat War Against the Allied Supply Lines, by Dr. Jurgen Rohwer (8) The Invasion of Normandy, by Friedrich Ruge (9) The Collapse of Army Group Centre in 1944, by Professor Hermann Gackenholz (10) The Battles of the Ardennes 1944-45, by Hasso von Manteuffel
