作者简介William Dunham 世界知名的数学史专家，现为美国穆伦堡学院教授。Dunham教授著述颇丰，较有影响的著作还有Journey Through Genius: The Great Theorems of Mathematics和The Mathematical Universe，后者被美国出版商协会评为1994年的最佳数学书（中文版也将由人民邮电出版社出版）。Dunham还分别于1992年、1997年、2006年获得美国数学协会颁发的George Polya奖、Trevor Evans 奖和Lester R. Ford奖。
