作者简介詹姆斯•索特（James Salter，1925—2015），美国著名小说家、短篇小说作家。成长于纽约曼哈顿，毕业于西点军校，做过空军军官和战斗机飞行员。1957年出版长篇小说《猎手》，后退役全职从事写作。
主要作品有长篇小说《一场游戏一次消遣》（1967）、《光年》（1975）、《独面》（1979）、《这一切》（2013），短篇小说集《暮色》（1988）、《昨夜》（2005），回忆录《燃烧的日子》（1997）等。索特被誉为“作家中的作家”，“20世纪最被忽略的大师”，他不仅将极简主义风格发挥到了极致，而且对小说文体有新的开拓，曾获得《巴黎评论》哈达达奖（终身成就奖），福克纳奖、马拉默德小说奖等。
