作者简介科林·卢瑟·鲍威尔(colinlutherpowell)原美国国务卿；前参谋长联席会议主席；将军；黑人；共和党人。
科林·卢瑟·鲍威尔1937年4月5日出生于纽约，在南布朗克斯长大，父母是牙买加移民。1958年毕业于纽约市立学院，获地理学学士学位。他在校学习的同时参加了后备军官训练队，毕业于被授予少尉军衔。在完成了步兵军官基础训练后，被派至德国，同时晋升为中尉。随后的任命使他被先后派到马萨诸塞州的登文斯港、肯塔基州的坎贝尔港、堪萨斯州的莱文沃思港和科罗拉多州的卡森港。
1962-1963年和1968-1969年两次被派到越南，参加了越南战争。1971年毕业于乔治·华盛顿大学，获商业管理硕士学位。
1973-1974年任驻韩国美军大队司令。后被任命为第101空降师，第2旅旅长兼美驻德国陆军第5团团长。1977-1980年任国防部副部长高级军事助理。
