作者简介埃里奇·西格尔（Erich Segal），美国著名作家。1937年6月16日出生于纽约，以感伤的爱情故事和优美的文字，打动了整整一代读者。他行文简洁，但粗中有细、疏处见密，常常以平凡文字生出令人荡气回肠的悲愁。
埃里奇·西格尔哈佛大学毕业，在校时曾是一位田径运动员。后在耶鲁大学教古典文学和比较文学，为“披头士”乐队写过电影剧本《黄色潜水艇》，当过和平队全国顾问委员会的委员。主要作品有剧本《奥德赛》、《奥利弗的故事》、《男人、女人、孩子》、《级友》、《医生》、《唯有爱》。目前国内关于他的著作少有引进出版，2007年译林出版社曾引进出版过双语版的《爱情故事》。
西格尔后来在耶鲁大学任古典文学和比较文学教授，曾经为“披头士”乐队写过电影剧本《黄色潜水艇》，当过和平队全国顾问委员会的委员。
